In today’s episode, I’m talking about wholesale—specifically, how to find wholesale products and find them legitimately. I get a lot of messages from people asking about wholesale and saying that they haven’t been able to make a success of it, but what strikes me about all these people is that they quit too early. So first up today, I discuss the need for hard work and perseverance because you’re not going to knock it out of the park on the first try. You have to be willing to put the effort in and try everything—and if you really have, and it’s still not working, you can come talk to me, and we’ll work things out.

Moving on, I debunk some of the myths surrounding wholesaling on Amazon, including the idea that it’s better to start with products instead of distributors and manufacturers, and that you should go after big brands. Then I share with you the best ways to find wholesalers, like looking at a product’s retail packaging to find details of their distributor and manufacturer, going to trade show websites, or signing up for industry newsletters and trade publications. I also talk about common excuses people use for giving up on wholesaling, like being rejected by vendors who don’t work with Amazon or believing wholesale is too expensive or competitive. Finally, I wrap things up with some advice about the importance of doing your research in order to have the best chance of success at wholesaling.

We see the result, we see a win or a loss, or we see the different plays come into action when we’re watching football. What we’re not looking at and not seeing is all of the work that these people have put in over and over again, week after week after week, to get that result.”

Quotes:

The reality is most people start, really, to slow down. They quit before they actually get the result they want. They try two or three different things. They say, ‘Well, I’ve tried this, I’ve tried that.’”

Guess what, you’re gonna have to grow a little bit of thick skin. You’re going to have to keep doing some things over and over again in different ways because you don’t always get to knock it out of the park the first time.”

Do you want this to work or not? Because if you do, you’re going to have to put in some effort, some consistent, quality effort. Like, no half-assed work here.”

Like the needle in a haystack. One of my favorite things about hearing that thing is, the easiest way to find a needle in a haystack is to bring a big, fat magnet.”

Most product-selling businesses are built on really good solid research and good products. So let’s do research. That’s what we’re going to do, we’re going to be research experts.”

If you have no idea what to sell, and you’re just trying to get some wholesalers, you’re just trying to get some ideas, and you don’t know what you’re doing, that’s even better. You know why? Because there’s way more options.”

The last time we went to Atlanta, I really tried to get someone to say ‘no’, I couldn’t sell their product on Amazon. And I couldn’t get anyone to say ‘no’ to us.”

This isn’t personal at all. It’s all about business. They are in the business of selling products, you’re in the business of selling products to the end-user via brick and mortar, your email, your Facebook marketplace, your Etsy shop, your Amazon store, wherever it is that you’re selling all these products. They want to sell products to you, and you want to sell products to your customers, and everybody wins, and everybody makes money.”

Being a wholesale customer is one of my favorite things about this business. I get free products, I get catalogs, I get reps calling me, telling me all about their discounts and their deals. They want your business really bad, so give it to them.”

Working long-tail with specific vendors is always going to be a great idea. Because the longer you do business with someone, the more trust is built, the more they realize that you’re a regular client customer, they can count on you for regular purchases, and they’re more apt to give you incentives.”

Nobody’s gonna look through that catalog for you. No one’s gonna do that research for you, unless you hire them to.”

If you feel like you’ve done absolutely everything you could, and you still haven’t found one vendor or one product to sell, hit me up. I will have a chat with you, and we will find you something that really, really works.”
